Garden Project Fosters Community at Lee Center
HIBBING – Residents at Lee Center (Life Enrichment for the Elderly) apartments are starting to see the fruits of their labor as plants flourish in new, accessible raised gardens there.
“We’re absolutely for fostering community here, and residents involvement in daily activities, making a “home sweet home,” Monica Olson, property manager said.
An endowment helped cover the cost of replacing old raised gardens at the apartment complex, according to Olson.
“Each resident got to sign up for a box,” resident Christine Milliken explained, noting some residents opted to share one. The gardens provide an opportunity for residents to get outdoors and enjoy gardening, while bringing them together in a space that is aesthetically pleasing. The garden area is where residents gather for outdoor activities and barbecues.
