In December 2020, CCI closed a joint venture with the Durham Housing Authority (DHA) and Florian Companies to renovate the first of 6 buildings that make up DHA’s Downtown & Neighborhood Plan.  CCI and its partners worked with the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency, the City of Durham and other private parties in order to realize this important preservation transaction.   Utilizing HUD’s RAD conversion program, 4% bonds and private LIHTC equity, and funds from the City of Durham, this renovation exemplified the benefits of a public/private partnership as a tool to protect resident subsidies and preserve affordable housing in the City of Durham.  Building upgrades include unit interior renovations, energy efficiencies, HVAC upgrades and a new roof, among other important building system improvements.
